Individual Membership Conditions

Every European International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and breastfeeding supporter is invited to be a member of ELACTA.

The Members of ELACTA are divided into full members, associate members, and honorary members.

All Members have to be compliant with the WHO Code of Marketing for Breastmilk Substitutes and its subsequent WHA resolutions, and recognize and follow the values of ELACTA.

Full Members are persons with a valid IBCLC certificate or retired IBCLCs (who held the certification in good standing and are no longer certified and agree to adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct for IBCLCs) who support ELACTA’s purpose and pay a set annual membership fee in time. These IBCLC members have the right to vote at the General Assembly (GA)and to be elected to

Associate members are persons who feel connected to the purpose of ELACTA, support the association’s activities and pay a set annual membership fee, but they do not have a valid IBCLC certificate. These non-IBCLC members do not have the right to vote at the GA and cannot be elected to office.

Honorary members are natural persons who are appointed by the General Assembly for special services brought to ELACTA. These members do not pay the set annual membership fee. Honorary members who have a valid IBCLC certificate or are Retired IBCLCs have the right to vote and be elected to office.

Full members can join ELACTA either through their national association, or as an individual member or group of individual members.

Membership is possible for Individual members or groups of individual members: 

  • are not a member of an affiliated association in their country, or
  • do not have a lactation consultants’ association in their country, or
  • are a member of a lactation consultants’ association which is not in favour of membership to ELACTA
  • pay a set annual membership fee in time

To reach out internationally, we also welcome individual members from neighbouring countries. We encourage them to join us in the challenges of recognition of the IBCLC profession and offer them interesting education possibilities and the chance to share activities with similar  associations and individuals.

As an INDIVIDUAL MEMBER of ELACTA you are part of growing network of IBCLC’s in Europe.

  • Discounted registration fees at the ELACTA Conference
  • Access to “CERPs International” days (IBCLCs only)
  • Access to the digital journal Lactation& Breastfeeding in English 4 times per year
  • Special price for subscription of the journal  “Laktation&Stillen”, available in German language (for additional price). 
  • The right to participate actively in the General Assembly of ELACTA and be elected to the Board

Membership requirements

  • Comply with statutes and policies of ELACTA
  • Observe the partnerships of ELACTA with EISL and ILCA
  • Endorse the WHO code
  • Support the goals of ELACTA
  • Promote the objectives and work of ELACTA
  • Renew the membership yearly till January, 8 and pay subscriptions (membership fee) after receipt of the invoice with deadline. 
  • Membership runs on a calendar year (January 1 to December 31) and is payable for the following year unless written notices of membership cancellation is received by the 1st of December.
